Monsters Vs. Aliens

They are getting better...dreamworks i mean. It started with Kung Fu Panda and i hope that the steam ain't gonna be dissipating soon because i think i see history repeating itself again. Well as an avid fan of animation i am concerened of what's gonna happen in the industry with all the economic crisis we're facing. I really don't mind seeing a decline in animated or 3d cartoons as long as they're worth watching. Well enough of this talking about economic BS..i'm writing this as my own review for Monsters vs. Aliens and to put it straight, I LOVE IT!!..the flick immediately reminded me of the Looney Tunes cartoon shorts where you're in for a ton of gags and jokes for the entire 7 minutes without any real story but it's there it entertained you. At first i thought: "what!! is this what they put up?..after that mind blowing, aesthetic barrage and utterly artistically inspiring flick entitled Kung Fu Panda..this all that they can come up to?..hell! they didn't have a flashy intro or end credits!"..that was me on the first few minutes watching the film but i was in for a surprise. Hell i was wrong soo wrong. As the story progresses i became aware of what the film really is trying to give to the audience and it was just about having a good laugh that's it and nothing more no story to really follow through no dialouge to really absorb so that you can catch up with what's going on. It was just about entertaining the audience with brilliant and totally entertaining comedy unlike what you see in other animated films where there's flimsy comedy with flimsy story. I don't know about what the guys at Dreamworks were thinking but if it's an unconscious thing..i think they've captured the essence of what the guys at Termite Terrace were doing to the Looney Tunes cartoon shorts that became hugely popular in their time so popular they killed Walt Disney in the cartoon short wars his Silly Symphonies were nothing compared to the Bugs and the gang. As one animation artist (can't remember his name) said: " If Disney was classical music then Warner Bros. was jazz" i couldn't agree more..if this kind of stuff keeps up at dreamworks then i guess the Disney-Warner Bros. rivalry is back again and this time it's in the 3d arena..where Pixar is Disney and Dreamworks is Warner Bros. i'd love to think that the approach they made with monsters vs. aliens isn't just a coincidence but a realization that this kind of approach to comedy which has been tested before really is still relevant in these times. It really made me smile and think that all of the efforts of the past animators really brushed up on the new guys..i mean the film was just about gags and silly jokes and nothing more..there was no real story the pacing was unbelievably fast..one day susan was just an ordinary girl then she's ginormica the next and before you know it you can smell the ending already. In my opinion the only thing that separates this film from the others is the approach in comedy..Pixar in my opinion is still bound to storybased cartoons and there's absolutely nothing bad about it..i love Pixar they're the best thing to come around since Disney terminated their 2d feature cartoons but i have to give the laurels to Dreamworks in their efforts to really rehabilitate and make sense out of the Shrek debacle is actually paying off and it shows in their latest stuff. Kung Fu Panda was their launchpad to success and even me when i saw the ads for kung fu panda i said "oh man! are they gonna screw up chinese martial arts too?" but i was dead wrong Dreamworks has the ball and hopefully they'd be keeping the ball for the meantime. Diversity is the key that's what keeps the genre interesting not just in comedy but in everything..and in my opinion Dreamworks pulled that off in Monsters vs. Aliens...and also I noticed that most of the comedy in monsters vs. aliens was based on kiddy humor in which is only very effective in adults in terms of the level of decibels generated in their laughter...my most fave scenes was when the general was still fixing his uniform while talking to the president which explains the overly exaggerated security protocols needed to enter the facility now that's effective subtle humor the kids won't notice it but the adults cracked the hell up when they saw it and also Bob's scene where he shows off his new "gf" to susan's ex..hehe!! the gesture was golden!! i mean that's subtle humor at it's best. Well i think i'll wrap this thing up and for those who will still watch the movie i just hope you guys actually fracture your ribs by just laughing watching the movie..if you ask me I did..fractured my ribs laughing..figuratively..hehe!.
